Civil War Camp Life: A Living History EventExplore a Civil War soldier’s day-to-day life. The average Civil War soldier saw just 3 days of combat in 9 months. This event will feature a semi-permanent camp with canvas tents, hosted by the 7th Florida, Company K and an “on the march” camp presented by members of the Liberty Guards. The camps will feature what filled a soldier’s life when not in combat. Experience what they did to pass the time like writing letters home, gambling, whittling as well as cooking methods, drilling, drilling and more drilling.
Play a round or two of chuck-a-luck, like the soldiers of both North and South did during their down time. There will also be historical presentations in the afternoon in the air-conditioned Lockey Tool Room inside the Main Building. *There will not be a battle reenactment.Presentations for the afternoon (starting at 2pm) include:
• The 2nd Florida Cavalry US (a Florida regiment comprised of Floridians that served the Union)
• Henry Crane (a Tampa resident and period photographer turned Union scout, raider and Captain of Company A, 2nd Florida Cavalry US)
• The 7th Florida Infantry Regiment in the Army of Tennessee
• William Michael Hope (a Confederate soldier from the Cedar Key area that ended up with the 6th Florida Battalion and fought at Olustee)Tell a Friend
