The Pioneer Florida Museum & Village and the Seminole Wars Foundation proudly present…The Treaty of Ft. Dade, a Second Seminole War Event.
It’s March, 1837 and the US Army and Seminole Indians have been at war for nearly a year-and-a-half. Under a flag of truce, the Seminoles agreed to meet with army officials at Fort Dade, just seven miles from present-day Dade City. Many tribal leaders agreed to be relocated to Oklahoma Territory during this lull in the hostilities. The truce would not last. On June 2, Osceola and Coacoochee snuck in the disembarkation camp outside Fort Brooke in Tampa and liberated hundreds of their fellow Seminoles.
The Pioneer Florida Museum will portray this sequence of events through historical interpretation and theatrical reenactment. The event will also feature Seminole and other Native American artisans, time period specific US Army and state militia portrayals, along with civilian crafts and demonstrations.
