Bicycling

East Pasco County and the Greater Dade City area are well known with the bicycling community for the scenic routes through orange groves, cattle ranches and quaint historic townships.  Each weekend colorful peletons of riders can be seen throughout the area's rolling hills and rural two lane roads.

This area is a favorite with some of Florida's largest and most active bicycling clubs such as Tampa Bay Freewheelers, Florida Freewheelers, Caloosa Riders, and many others.  Just north of Dade City is the Southern Trailhead of the Florida Trail.  The dormant railroad bed that stretched from Trilby to Dunellon, Florida is now a premier Rails To Trails accomplishment that provides riders at all levels with a safe, clean and beautiful 50-mile stretch of smooth asphalt with minimal intersections.  While this linear park is also a favorite with local residents for roller blading and walking, it is also a terrific resource for bicyclists to train safely for Century (100-mile) and Metric Century (60-mile) races.  Along either side of the trail equestrians can also enjoy relaxed, tree canopied horseback rides.

We especially recommend Old and New St. Joe Road, Lake Iola Road and all roads out of the San Antonio Baseball Field for a relaxing weekend bike ride.  If you enjoy camping and biking, Sertoma Youth Ranch is just a couple of miles off I-75 at Exit 293 (CR 41.)  It's a beautiful wooded setting with great rides in every direction.

In addition to casual weekend riders, each year this area is home to a variety of charity rides. East Pasco Habitat for Humanity's Ride for Humanity in March combines a ride with a bar-b-que cook off.  Check our Events Calendar for details and we hope to see you soon!
