The Kumquat Festival’s 5K & No-K Race of Hope kicked off the day’s events at 8am with 150 runners and non-runners of all ages.  The Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of San Antonio, Florida teamed up to host the 2010 Kumquat Festival 5K & No-K run, with the theme “Stay Well/Get Well/Finding Cures/Fighting Back!”.  The race, in honor of John Dombroski, raised much needed funds to help find a CURE for cancer.  Some 57 volunteers from San Antonio’s Relay For Life were on hand to organize and support the race.

The 2010 Run was in honor of John Dombroski, a teacher at Pasco High School, who is fighting Mantle Cell Lymphoma.  As he continues teaching, John demonstrates positive attitude, strength, and leadership as he Fights Back against cancer. John exemplifies this year’s theme of Stay Well/Get Well/Finding Cures/Fighting Back!

All registrants of the 5K and No-K Races received a T-shirt, custom design by this year’s winner, Lindsey Barker of Centennial Middle School in Dade City.  Cancer survivors and loved ones that have lost their battle to cancer were honored by having their names listed on the back of race T-shirts.  A great big thank you to the following sponsors who made the run possible: Dew-Well Industries, INC, Richard and Sandi Grimes; Kumquat Growers; Rattlesnake Run Community of San Antonio, FL; St. Leo University; Sweetbay Supermarkets of Dade City; The Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce; Trade Mark Sales, INC, Jean Nathe; Todays Graphics, INC,

Pasco High School Student, Overall Winner Anthony Plourde, won the race for the third year in a row with a time of 16:24 and Melissa Miller of St Leo University was the Overall Female Winner with a time of 17:32.  Tom Schneeman was the Overall Male Master Winner with a time of 21:59.  The Overall Master Female Winner was Joy Luloff of Todays Graphics with a time of 22:52.  The 2010 Kumquat Pageant Queens were on hand to present tropics and medallions to all race winners.

The Race was a success and raised much needed funds in the fight against cancer.  Anyone interest in supporting or being a part of American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life can contact Patty Richter at (352) 424-1694 or email richterfp@embarqmail.com.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a family oriented event where participants raise funds to support the American Cancer Society.  Participants will camp in the park during the event on April 17, 2010, and will take turns walking to raise important funds needed to help find a cure.  There will be many games and activities throughout the day and night during the Relay For Life, with all proceeds going to American Cancer Society.  Visitors are also welcome to come and join in the fun and food throughout the day’s event.
